After World War II, the standard US Army rifle was the M1 Garand. The Garand was a solid rifle but it was heavy and its box magazines contained only 8 rounds, so its practical rate of fire was very low.

After some time, in 1950, there were two prototypes (EM2 and Belgium FN FAL) offered to the US government but - probably for prestige reasons (preference for an American produced rifle) - work on a new rifle started: the T44 from Springfield. The USA chose the T44 from Springfield (in fact the T48 FN FAL was a better rifle but Springfield was a company based in USA) and named it : US Rifle 7,62mm M14.

The M14 rifle was solid and reliable but actually as good as the M1 Garand. It was only produced from 1958 till 1963; so after 5 years, production ceased. In those 5 years, there were 1,380,346 in service.

Our AEG replica is the M14 Special Operations version. Long barrel, anti-slip texture, dot sight metal rail and sniper-grade accuracy are the main advantages of this rifle.
